Some of the bus-stops at Stonecot Hill are now equipped with passenger information displays. These give the latest arrival information for routes serving the area, are continuously updated, and from general observation, the times appear to be pretty accurate, ie, to the minute!
Ideal if you're wondering if you have enough time to do a little more shopping!
Countdown is being installed at 4,500 locations throughout London and will provide up to date information for more than 60% of total daily bus journeys - that's 750 million bus trips every year!
As well as indicating which routes are running and their arrival times, Countdown can display special messages regarding traffic and safety information for both passengers and drivers.
There are a number of sophisticated systems which work together to make Countdown operate efficiently. Technology on board buses allows a central system to receive a regular update from each bus about its exact location. Bus operators can then monitor exactly where the bus is and use this information to run their fleet of buses more efficiently.
Now that Countdown has arrived in Sutton, you'll have one less thing to worry about.
As of Monday 29th October, 2000, the Police Service will be using the Countdown system to communicate with the public. The technology will be used to relay investigation appeals and crime prevention messages.
